Thermage FLX Ottawa: Why the Device Generation Matters
Not every Thermage treatment uses the same generation of technology. GlowUp MediSpa has moved beyond the older Thermage CPT system and now provides treatments with Thermage FLX.
When people search for Thermage in Ottawa, they often focus on the treatment name, the number of pulses or the price. One important question is sometimes overlooked:
Which generation of Thermage device is being used?
Thermage technology has changed over the years. The older Thermage CPT system was once widely used, but it is not the machine currently offered at GlowUp MediSpa.
GlowUp MediSpa uses Thermage FLX, the newer generation of Thermage technology. Our previous CPT machine is no longer in use.
What Is Thermage FLX?
Thermage FLX is a non-invasive radiofrequency treatment designed to heat targeted layers beneath the skin’s surface. This controlled radiofrequency energy supports collagen contraction and gradual collagen remodeling.
The goal is not to change the way you look or create an artificial “pulled” appearance. Thermage is generally chosen by people who want their skin to look firmer, smoother and more defined while still looking like themselves.
Thermage FLX may be used to address concerns such as:
- Mild to moderate skin laxity
- Loss of firmness around the face
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Softening around the jawline
- Loose-looking skin beneath the chin
- Fine lines and laxity around the eye area
Thermage FLX vs. the Older Thermage CPT System
Thermage CPT was an earlier generation of the Thermage platform. It introduced comfort-focused features and was an important development at the time.
Thermage FLX was created as the next step in the technology, with updates designed to improve treatment efficiency, consistency and the overall patient experience.
1. A Larger Treatment Tip
Thermage FLX can use a larger 4.0 cm² Total Tip. The larger treatment area allows the practitioner to cover certain areas more efficiently than with the older 3.0 cm² treatment tip.
This does not mean every treatment should be rushed. Careful placement, treatment planning and proper technique remain essential. The larger tip simply gives an experienced provider a more efficient tool.
2. AccuREP Technology
Thermage FLX includes AccuREP technology, which automatically calibrates the delivery of radiofrequency energy.
Because skin characteristics can vary between treatment areas and between patients, consistent energy delivery is an important part of performing a personalized Thermage treatment.
3. Improved Treatment Comfort
Thermage FLX combines radiofrequency delivery with cooling and vibration features intended to support patient comfort during treatment.
You will still feel warmth during the procedure. The sensation varies depending on the treatment area, energy level and individual sensitivity, but settings can be adjusted throughout the appointment based on your feedback.
4. A More Efficient Treatment Experience
The updated FLX platform and larger treatment tip may allow certain treatments to be completed more efficiently than treatments performed with the older CPT system.
Actual appointment time depends on the treatment area, the number of pulses used and the treatment plan recommended during your consultation.
Does the Machine Really Make a Difference?
The device generation matters, but the machine is only one part of the treatment.
A successful Thermage experience also depends on:
- A proper in-person assessment
- Choosing the right treatment area
- Using an appropriate number of pulses
- Careful mapping and pulse placement
- Adjusting energy levels to the patient
- The experience and technique of the provider
A newer device cannot replace thoughtful treatment planning. At the same time, patients deserve to know whether they are receiving treatment with the newer FLX platform or an older-generation Thermage system.
How Does Thermage FLX Work?
During treatment, radiofrequency energy is delivered beneath the skin while the surface of the skin is protected with cooling.
The controlled heat affects existing collagen fibres and supports the body’s natural collagen-remodelling process. Some people notice an early feeling of firmness, while further changes may develop gradually over the following months.
Because the improvement is progressive, the result is often subtle and natural-looking rather than sudden or dramatic.
Is Thermage FLX a Laser?
No. Thermage FLX is not a laser treatment.
It uses radiofrequency energy rather than laser light. It is also different from ultrasound-based treatments such as Ultherapy.
Each technology works differently, and one treatment is not automatically better for everyone. The right option depends on your skin laxity, facial structure, previous procedures, treatment goals and medical history.
Is There Downtime?
Thermage FLX is non-surgical and does not require incisions or injections. Many patients return to their usual activities after their appointment.
Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or tingling may occur. Every patient responds differently, so your provider will explain what to expect and provide appropriate aftercare instructions.
Who May Be a Good Candidate?
Thermage FLX may be considered by adults who are beginning to notice mild or moderate skin laxity and would prefer a non-surgical treatment.
It may be particularly appealing to someone who wants gradual improvement without looking noticeably “done.”
Thermage may not be appropriate for everyone. It is important to disclose your medical history, implanted electrical devices, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, recent aesthetic procedures and any other relevant health information during your consultation.
